1959 Manila Football League During the 1950s, the legendary Lions football club was also cementing their legacy as one of the most decorated football clubs in the country. During the 1959 MFL season, the Lions won their fifth straight Manila Football League title. The 1950's and 60's top-tier club football in the philippines, was the era of Filipino-Chinese clubs, and one club, the Lions FC have dominated the other Filipino-Chinese football clubs such as Cheng Hua, Cheng Hong, Electrons, and South Star in the local leagues. The Lions team were starred by 1950's football legends with the likes of Pepe Teh, Larry Chua, Eddie Pe, Jose Chua, and coach by the great Mariano Ong. Pepe Teh, also called 'The Magician', is a dead-ball specialist, he can kicked with either the left of right foot, and he is also an expert of the bending technique(bend it like beckham technique). He was a member of the 1958 Philippine team at the Asian Games, the team that scored a huge upset against host Japan. He was 'Mr. Football awardee' in 1958. Teh was truly one of the gifted scorers to roam the local pitches. Eddie Pe was the star 'keeper of the era, but citizenship issues hindered his opportunity to play for the Philippine national team. Pe and Jose Chua formed the backbone of the Lions defense. Larry Chua was the team captain of formidable Lions team, he is another deadly scorer during that era. Described as a finisher and a "playmaker extraordinaire". But like Pe, he have citizenship issues also, and it delayed his chance to play for the Philippine national team. Mariano Ong was the club founder and was the club's legendary coach. One of the rival clubs of the Lions during that era was the Electrons, another Filipino-Chinese team. The Electrons team also has some of the best fil-chinese footballers during that time. They have left-footed centre-forward Lim Han Teh, right winger Ong Peng Kun, Eugenio Sy, Jose Lim, Ong Tian Pue, Liu Tiong Guan, So Hay Kim, halfbacks Manuel Chan and Cheng Chi Giak. This club went toe to toe with the Lions, but in no avail, as the Lions would dominate club football in the country during that era. The other clubs that competed during that MFL season (besides the Filipino-Chinese clubs) are: San Miguel Brewery of the Sorianos, William Lines Football Team owned by legendary 50's football patron William Chiongbian, the YCO AC team of the Elizaldes, Crispa Redmanizers of the Floros, Temple, Blues, and the collegiate based teams of San Beda AC and La Salle AC. The Lions would win two more MFL titles in the next two years(1960 and 1961), and set a record seven straight Manila Football League titles (from 1955 to 1961), which remains the longest championships streaks in Philippine club football history. The Lions team have won a total of eight football championship titles. The Lions were unbeatable during this era(1950's), only the 60/40 rule would beat the Lions, but that story is for another time.

The 1950s powerhouse Filipino-Chinese Electrons football team members: centre-forwards Lim Han Teh(林汉德), Larry Chua, Liu Tiong Guan, left winger Ong Peng Kun, right winger Ong Tian Pue, others: Jose Lim, Eugenio Sy, Cheng Chi Giak(LHB), So Hay Kim(L.I.), Manuel Chan(RH), Lim Kian Guan(President), Sy Kong Hui(Coach).
